In the field of Hair Restoration, PRP therapy is used to help men and women with a variety of hair loss conditions, by stimulating hair growth.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a natural, drug-free option for those suffering from thinning hair or spot baldness in both male and female pattern hair loss.
PRP treatment for hair restoration can slow down hair shedding and reverse hair miniaturization, making finer hairs become thicker.
Platelet Rich Plasma contains healing factors from your own blood that are instrumental in hair growth, wound healing, and are capable of regenerating hair follicles.  Patients experiencing thinning hair or diffuse baldness may benefit from platelet rich plasma treatments.
Using PRP in hair loss is supported by studies showing a faster transition to the growing (anagen) phase of hair cycling back from the resting and transitional phases, and also an increase in the number of newly formed follicles and earlier hair formation.
PRP also helps to restore and repair any damage to stem cells, which will reinforce blood flow to inactive hair follicles and boost hair restoration moving forward.
We recommend for my patients with male or female pattern hair loss, or for rejuvenation of the scalp and follicles to recover from the age-related changes of loss of volume and density. We do not recommend it for those with the autoimmune form of hair loss such as alopecia areata, alopecia totalis, universalis, or for scarring forms of hair loss.

HOW DOES PRP THERAPY WORK?

PRP therapy is the insertion of Platelet Rich Plasma solution into the scalp area being treated. The PRP solution is obtained by taking a blood sample from the patient. The blood is placed in a centrifuge, which spins to separate the platelet rich plasma from the other factors in the blood. The resulting PRP solution is concentrated blood plasma that contains approximately three times the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood in the body.

PRP treatments for hair restoration are an in-office, no downtime procedure. A small amount of blood is drawn from a vein in your arm.  This sample is spun and processed to collect the platelets and growth factors by experienced specialist. This concentrated PRP is then inserted into your scalp with using SkinPen® Microneedling or Microchanneling device.
The procedure takes approximately 30 min and you can return to work or other activities immediately.
Expect improvements in hair growth in about 2-3 months.  For results, a series of treatments, or a combination of therapies are recommended.
We recommend that patients wishing to receive PRP therapy start with 3 sessions every 1 month and than once per 4-6 months, as regular treatment can promote healthy hair growth, increasing the time between sessions as they progress.

Patients have reported the following benefits of using platelet rich plasma for hair restoration:

PRP Hair Treatments do not require any preparatory medications, or recovery down time. Patients can wash their hair in the few hours following the procedure but they should avoid any harsh chemical treatments such as hair coloring or perming for at least 72 hours.
Unlike many hair growth medications, PRP therapy hair treatments do not have significant side effects. Mild inflammation, swelling, and redness may be experienced for a short period after the treatment. All concerns and medical history can be discussed with our professionals during your consultation.

IS PRP SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE?

PRP therapy is not suitable for everyone and caution should be taken especially in patients with a history of heavy smoking, drug or alcohol use, or a medical diagnosis such as platelet dysfunction syndromes, heart disease, chronic skin diseases or cancer, metabolic and systemic disorders.
If considering PRP therapy, it is important to fully disclose your medical history to the specialist. For those suitable for PRP, remember that results will vary between individuals and, as with any medical treatment, no specific result can be promised.
PRP can be used as a stand-alone treatment for those that are prone to side effects from other hair loss treatments. As a non-surgical treatment, PRP can be combined with medical hair loss treatments, such as Minoxidil and other DHT inhibitors, Revive Hair Loss Mesotherapy as well as a designed natural hair products for hair loss. It can also be used before, during or after surgical hair restoration, such as a hair transplant.
